About Libby Orrick

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in perinatal and reproductive mental health, working with individuals and couples through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. I see clients in person in Cow Hollow, virtually throughout California, and in-home for newly postpartum families in San Francisco and parts of Marin.

Much of my work sits at the intersection of trauma and life transition. Fertility treatment, pregnancy, and birth are experiences where trauma often accumulates quietly: in medical procedures, in losses, in birth experiences that didn't go as expected, and in the collision between what this stage of life was supposed to feel like and what it actually does. Many of my clients are high-functioning, self-reliant women who have hit a wall where their usual tools no longer work. That's often where trauma lives.

Birth trauma in particular can be hard to name. It doesn't always look the way people expect. It can show up as intrusive memories, rumination, avoidance, guilt or shame, or a feeling of disconnection from your body or your birth story. EMDR is especially effective for processing what is stuck so it no longer feels present.

My trauma training is specific to this population. I am trained in EMDR and hold specialized certificates in reproductive trauma and women's mental health, alongside Postpartum Support International's Advanced Perinatal Psychotherapy Training and the Covington Fertility Counseling postgraduate course. Before specializing, I worked in rape crisis, wilderness therapy, and intensive outpatient settings.

My approach blends trauma processing with practical skill-building. Insight matters, but my clients also want to move. I draw on EMDR for what is stuck, CBT for unhelpful thought patterns, and DBT for emotional regulation, within a relational frame that takes your full history seriously.

This work became personal during my own first pregnancy, when I found that neither my clinical training nor my prenatal care had prepared me for what the perinatal period actually involves. That experience is what led me here.

If any of this resonates, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to talk through what's bringing you in and whether we might be a good fit.
